HECUA: Environmental Sustainability
Science, Public Policy, and Community Action (offered every fall semester)
To apply, please set up an appointment with the Environmental Sustainability advisor. The application deadline is April 15.
The Twin Cities has one of the most active environmental networks in the country, along with a diverse landscape where you can get hands-on environmental experience. In the Environmental Sustainability program, you'll participate in classes, an internship, and a community-based research project. The ES program focuses on:
the social and economic issues surrounding environmental change ecosystem degradation and restorationsustainable agriculturepublic policy and research developmentcommunity organizing and strategiesthe links between urban and rural concernsregional and global trendsland management and watershed protectionpollutionenergy production and consumption
Credit Information:
U of M students earn 16 upper-division ID (Inter-Departmental) credits through this fall semester program. Many U of M departments also award major/minor credit to participating students (contact your advisor or the CCLC for more information).

Environmental Sustainability is a full-time program. Taking additional courses during the semester is not recommended. Students in the program spend two days per week in the academic and field seminars, and three days per week at an environmental-based internship site.
Tuition Information:
Tuition for the Environmental Sustainability semester program (during the 2007-2008 academic year) was $7400. Tuition for the 2008-2009 program will be posted soon. Most financial aid applies, and there are several scholarships available to U of M students. Contact the Environmental Sustainability advisor (see below) for more details.
